Obsidian Plugin · v0.1.0

Obsidian, just the way you like it.

A curated set of tiny fixes for the little things that bug you in Obsidian every day. One install, one settings pane, one update.

What you get

  • Rename any tab. Right-click → give it whatever name you want. Add a color too.
  • New notes land where you're working. Not at the top of your vault, never again.
  • Print notes normally. Right-click any note → Print. Just like every other app.
  • Press E to edit, Escape to read. Swap between reading and editing without clicking.
  • One-click plugins button. Puzzle-piece icon in the sidebar → you're in Community Plugins.
  • Compact tables. Tighter padding and smaller type so tables stop sprawling. Extra small or small.
  • Note width presets. S / M / D / L / XL / Full. Click the status bar widget to cycle, or bind hotkeys to jump straight to a width.

Install (30 seconds)

Easiest way — via BRAT

  1. In Obsidian, open Settings → Community Plugins and install BRAT.
  2. Open BRAT's settings, click Add Beta plugin, and paste:
sachio222/obsidian-goldilocks-essentials

That's it. BRAT handles updates automatically.

Or, install it manually

No BRAT, no GitHub, no jargon — just three steps. This is the way if you're new to Obsidian or helping someone who is.

Step 1 — Get Obsidian

Obsidian is the free note-taking app this plugin adds to. If you don't have it yet, grab it from the official site.

Download Obsidian

Step 2 — Get the plugin

Click this button. It downloads a small zip file with everything the plugin needs. No GitHub, no accounts, no fuss.

Download Goldilocks

Step 3 — Install it

  1. Unzip the file you just downloaded. You'll get a folder called goldilocks-essentials. Keep it handy.
  2. Open Obsidian. Click the gear icon in the bottom-left corner to open Settings.
  3. In the left sidebar of Settings, click Community plugins.
  4. If it says “Restricted mode is on,” click Turn on community plugins.
  5. Next to Installed plugins, click the small folder icon. Your file manager will open on the right spot — the plugins folder inside your vault.
  6. Drag the goldilocks-essentials folder you unzipped earlier into that window.
  7. Back in Obsidian, click the refresh icon next to Installed plugins.
  8. Flip the switch next to Goldilocks Essentials to turn it on.

That's it — every feature is now live. If you want to turn any of them off, they each have their own switch in the plugin's settings.

Using it

Once installed, everything just works — no menu to open, no mode to turn on. Where to find each feature:

  • Rename or color a tab — right-click the tab.
  • New notes — land in the folder you clicked last in the sidebar.
  • Print a note — right-click any note, then pick Print.
  • Read / edit toggle — press E to edit, Escape to go back.
  • Plugins shortcut — the puzzle-piece icon on the left sidebar.
  • Compact tables — on by default. Pick a density in the plugin's settings.
  • Note width — click the width indicator in the status bar to cycle through presets, or pick one in the plugin's settings.

Not sure it's live? Open Settings → Community plugins and look for Goldilocks Essentials under Installed plugins. If the switch is on, you're good.

Coming to the community store

The official Community Plugins submission is in review. Once live, you'll be able to search Goldilocks Essentials from Obsidian's built-in plugin browser and install in one click.
